Introducing the PERFoRM Score™ — Reach Your Performance Potential

February 21, 2024

Welcome to our limited blog series, where we embark on a journey towards achieving your performance and wellness potential in every domain of your life. We understand that the road to success is not a random one; it's paved with intention, resilience, and a deep understanding of oneself. To help you along that journey, we created the PERFoRM Score™ – an assessment that is designed to provide you with a snapshot of your mental strengths, weaknesses and tendencies as they relate to core factors of performance.

In this blog series, we'll dive into one category (made up of multiple factors) each week, and explore how they shape your ability to be at your very best, consistently. But before we begin this journey, let's first start with understanding why a focus on the mental side of performance is so important.

Why Focus on the Mental Side of Performance?

There are many factors that influence our ability to achieve success and reach the highest levels. Regardless of the domain, individuals must master their mind and emotions. Research in the fields of positive psychology, neuroscience, sport psychology and other areas strongly demonstrates the impact that managing emotions and mastering our thinking can have on long-term success.

In order to help you better understand what factors of mental performance are strengths and which are weaknesses, we grouped factors into 7 main categories, together they make up the PERFoRM Score™. As part of this introductory post, we will briefly describe each of the categories and in future blog posts, we will dive into each of the categories in more detail and provide rules for mastering them.

PERFoRM Score™ Categories

PREPARATION

Top achievers don't leave success to chance. They meticulously prepare by setting clear goals, creating a plan, and cultivating key behaviours and routines that allow them to be their best, on demand, day in and day out.

ENERGY

Mastering your physical, mental, and emotional energy is the hallmark of high performers. They manage their energy to excel when it matters most, recover swiftly, and maintain control when under pressure.

REHEARSAL

Intentional thoughts, feelings, and mental imagery are tools that top achievers employ to help them learn and master difficult skills, overcome challenges, and perform in pressure-filled environments.

FOCUS

High achievers can switch their attention at will to deeply focus on what is most important in the moment. They place their attention where it matters most (both internally and externally), in spite of any distractions or challenges they face.

RESILIENCE

Resilience is the ability to withstand and effectively adapt to challenging circumstances.  Top achievers understand that things will not always go as expected and know the faster they can adapt, the faster they can bounce back from things out of their control and “get back in the fight”.

MINDSET

Staying motivated and confident in themselves and their abilities even when they’re facing challenges, feeling stressed, or when others don’t believe in them is what sets top achievers' mindset apart from others.

SELF-AWARENESS

Self-awareness is the foundation top achievers use to maximize their potential by making the most of their strengths, knowing where they need to improve, and understanding how their tendencies can help or hinder them from being their best.
